Chlamydia

The Facts

  • Can be diagnosed with a urine sample or vaginal swab. 

  • You can get Chlamydia by having vaginal, anal, or oral sex with an infected person. 

When To Get Tested?

Get tested at least once a year if you are: 

  • 25 or younger and are sexually active\older than 25 and having sex with one or more partner 

  • Older than 25 and you have a new sexual partner

  • Pregnant 

  • If your sex partner has tested positive

Signs/Symptoms

  • Often has no symptoms but can still cause serious health problems.

  • Symptoms may not appear until several weeks after having the disease and may include; 

    • abnormal smelly vaginal discharge 

    • burning sensation when peeing

    • unusual sore 

    • bleeding between periods

    • discomfort or bleeding when you have sex

  • If the infection spreads: lower abdominal pain, pain during sex, nausea, or fever may be present. 

How to Lower Your Risk?

  • Refrain from having sex

  • Only have sex with someone who's not infected and only has sex with you.

  • Use condoms if used the correct way.

  • Washing your genitals, urinating, or douching after sex will NOT prevent any STD.
