TREATMENTS

It can be cured with the recommended single dose of 500mg of intramuscular ceftriaxone.

​

Antimicrobial resistance is becoming an increasing concern.

​

Medication will stop the infection but will not repair any permanent damage made by the disease. 

​

Make sure to get retested in 3 months.

​

Avoid having sex until treatment is complete by you and your partner.

It can be treated and cured with antibiotics. 

​

Finish all your medication, do not share them with anyone, and wait until they are finished to have sex.  

​

If you still have symptoms, go back to your doctor. 

​

Make sure your partner gets treated as well. 

  • Get tested again in three months.

  • It is possible to get trich again from an untreated or new partner.

There is no treatment for the virus itself, but there are treatments for the health problems caused. 

 

All preteens at age 11-12 (or can start at age nine) and everyone through 26 years should get vaccinated.

Genital warts: can go away with treatment or prescription medicine. If left untreated, they may go away, stay the same, or grow in size or number. 

​

Cervical precancer: Routine Pap tests and follow-ups as needed can help find the problem before cancer develops. 

​

Other HPV-related cancers: treatable when found and treated early. 

There is no cure for genital herpes, but there are treatments for its symptoms. 

​

Medications can prevent the blisters or make them go away faster. 

​

Daily suppressive therapy: can reduce your chances of passing the infection to your sexual partners if you have several outbreaks in a year.
